Calvin Newton began singing in 1946 with a group from the Church of Go Training School in Sevierville, TN. His professional career was launched with Wally Fowler and the Oak Ridge Quartet, then the Blackwood Brothers, then he organized a trio called the Sons of Song, one of the most popular Southern Gospel groups from 1957-1972. After 20 years, Calvin reentered Gospel music at the invitation of Bill Gaither. Calvin gave his testimony and sang "Hide Thou Me" on Gaither's "All Day Singing." Since then, he has appeared on most Gaither videos and is now a member of the Gaither Homecoming Concerts.
